Higher Education
Awareness around the impact of physical and mental health conditions on students in Higher Education Institutions has increased. This is a great improvement for students as in the past it has been difficult to receive support to meet their needs. Whilst Universities have a range of support services and groups focused on wellbeing, many Universities do not have enough support available to support students on an individual basis or at an external location. At Onyx Support we aim to demonstrate our knowledge and experience of physical and mental health conditions within Higher Education to support each student to reach their potential and achieve their individual goals.
Each student, when assessed, will have a set amount of hours whereby they can receive support in their required area e.g. note taking. This helps us to appoint a support worker that we believe will be best suited to each individual student. Our support is not limited to a condition and Onyx Support is open to supporting every student, including students who are not in receipt of Disabled Student's Allowance (DSA) but would like to be supported whilst they study. Our staff have extensive knowledge and experience of studying to higher education, understanding the potential challenges faced and improving wellbeing. In addition, we ensure that our staff have worked with a range of clients and have well developed communication skills as this enables students to feel comfortable with their support workers. Developing a good working relationship with support workers also ensures that students feel at ease contacting their support workers about their concerns and seeking help.
