About the Role
We are seeking CSW all over the UK. Communication Support Workers/Communication Support Workers with BSL
For this role, Communication Support Workers (CSWs) are professionals who support the communication of Deaf students in education at all ages, using a variety of methods including British Sign Language.
To provide reinforcement of curriculum content for deaf learners, support deaf learners through sign language communication, note-taking, language modification and lip-speaking.
To work with the deaf learner’s peer group to enable him/her to share fully in the life of the college and to promote the social and emotional development of the learner.
To encourage and promote the confidence and independence of deaf learners.
To work on own initiative
To provide and respond to information from teachers, lecturers and specialist tutors about the needs of deaf learners (e.g. for assignments, coursework and exams).
To liaise with Tutors for the Deaf and where necessary provide written reports.
To maintain current and accurate records of support work at all times.
To demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing demands in personal, team and college workloads.
To provide communication support for the deaf learner in a variety of settings including annual reviews, examinations and meetings (Trained CSWs).
To comply with Equal Opportunities and Diversity policies and their implementation and development in colleges.
To comply with all Health and Safety and Risk Management policies and legislation whilst carrying out your duties.
To ensure confidentiality of student/teacher and college information and to comply with the Data Protection Act.
To participate in annual performance appraisals and undertake relevant staff development.
To participate in regular supervision as part of Safeguarding protocol.
To be responsible for the health and safety of self and others (in accordance with the Academy’s Health & Safety Policy).
1. Signature Level 3 Certificate in Communication Support for Deaf Learners
2. Level 4 Communication Support Worker (University of Greenwich)
3. City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Communication Support for Deaf Learners (6259-07)
4. A degree in deaf studies
5.BTEC Continuing Education Certificate in Caring - Communication Support Work with Deaf People to June 1997
6. Edexcel Professional Development Award - Communication Support Workers with Deaf People from September 1997
7. Edexcel Professional Development Award - Communication Support Workers with Deaf Students from September 1998
8. BTEC Professional Development Certificate - Caring (Communication Support Worker). Supported and evidenced by CPD in relevant subjects from the past two years.
To apply for the Communication Support Worker role with BSL, you MUST hold a Level 3 qualification or higher in British Sign Language (BSL) PLUS one of the above CSW qualifications.
